Government Irrigation Workshop, Roorkee incepted in 1843 during construction of Upper Ganga Canal. The Largest artificial stream in the world at that time. It also served as a army workshop during war in 1903. The workshop was handed over to U.P. Irrigation Department in 1953.

Since then many prestigious works for fabri-cation and erection of Hydro-Mechanical equipments have been successfully completed for various important irrigation and power projects. The workshop also earned the foriegn exchange by export assignment of Rolling Gas Turbine casing as per specification of M/s SIEMENS, Germnay, entrusted by BHEL, Haridwar. The workshop has 3 fabrication shops Plate Blending Shops equipped for heavy & light fabrication, Two Machine shops, Forge & Foundary Shops, Patter Shops. Present Capacity is 5000 M.T of machinary equipments & casting/annum. Equipment are manufacture as per various national and international codes & specifications.

Workshop is controlled by Works Manager, under administrative control of superintending Engineer, Irrigation Construction Circle, Dehradun handed by Chief Engg. Uttarakhand Irrigation Department, Dehradun. Workshop strength lies in the resources of its highlt skilled technicians and experienced Foreman and Engineers.

Hydro-Mechanical equipment and Power projects for different organizations viz. U. P. Irrigation, UJVN, UPSEB, NHPC, THDC, BHEL, Triveni Structures Limited.
