  • Exclusive academic center of IIT Roorkee focussing on SHP development and recognized as National Resource Centre for Small Hydropower
  • Large national database for resource assessment for SHP development and rural electrification created

  • Expertise for field testing and performance evaluation of SHP stations available
  • Preparing the National Standards/ Code of Practices for SHP development
  • Offers technical support to Several Central and State Governments and organisations  (over 25) for their shp projects and plans (over 500 MW)

EXTENSION AND DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES

REAL TIME DIGITAL SIMULATOR (RTDS) FOR SHP PLANT
Real-Time Digital Simulator for Small Hydropower Plants for training has been estabilished at AHEC IIT Roorkee
  • SET up with support of MNRE and UNDP in April 2007
  • Offering  4 levels training  modules of  6 days (in service), 15 days (new) and 1 day (owners)
  • All types of operation normal- start/stop of unit, synchronisation of unit with the grid, load variation, turbine  and generator protection, breakers failures
  • operation log and trend chart, power channel , forebay and penstock draining, loss of auxiliary supply, valve blocking in position, sensors defects
  • Shall  result in  reduced O&M costs,  avoids damage to plant, increase in plant life and reduce training time
Research in the Area of Solar Energy
  • Development of solar air heaters having artificial roughness element of different shapes and sizes
  • Development of packed bed solar energy storage system having different sizes and shapes of packing materials

Comprehensive Standards / Manuals / Guidelines for Small Hydro Development Prepared Under the Sponsorship of Ministry of New & Renewable Energy, Govt. of India and were released by Dr Satish B Agnihotri, Secretary, MNRE in the presence of Dr P Monga, Director (Energy and Climate Change), UNIDO and Prof P Banerji, Director, IIT Roorkee at IIT Roorkee on Feb 03, 2014.
