The Government has recently launched the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission,
which is a major initiative of the Government of India and State Governments to
promote ecologically sustainable growth while addressing India's energy security
challenge. It will also constitute a major contribution by India to the global
effort to meet the challenges of climate change. Various off-grid solar photo
voltaic systems / applications up to a maximum capacity of 100 kWp per site and
off-grid and decentralized solar thermal applications, to meet / supplement lighting,
electricity/power, heating and cooling energy requirements would be eligible for being covered under the Scheme.
A group of B. Tech. Students (7 nos.) under the guidance of AHEC Faculty worked on preparing a detailed project report
for “Solar Energy for IIT Roorkee Campus” as Internship in the project mode. The work has being carried out for following themes:
- Solar Water Heating System for use in Hostels and residences
- Solar steam System for mess for cooking
- Solar Power Plant for lighting and electricity generation
- Swimming pool heating solution
